I will lift up my eyes to the
mountains; A missionary in the early 1900's named Amy Carmichael, was an invalid (totally bed ridden) for the last twenty years of her life. She wrote many books and poetry. In her book, "Rose From Brier" she states the many things written to encourage the sick are written by the well. The well person hasn't experienced the pain and suffering; and consequently, their words can sometimes be completely inappropriate, although very well meaning. Amy Carmichael summed it up with this little poem: The toad beneath the harrow knows She states: "There can be minutes when the toad is not properly grateful to the butterfly - no, not even if he comes dressed like a very good Christian. He is upon the road: he isn't under the harrow; he never was there." In this section, Christian Support, I want to follow Amy Carmichael's example and write from one sick person to another sick person. I trust and pray that the things that have comforted and encouraged me, might in some small way comfort and encourage you. May the Lord Himself be your comfort and encouragement. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3&4 (the Bible) TABLE OF CONTENTS In each article, I either reference my statements with verses from the Bible or I quote Bible verses. I encourage you to take time to look up these verses, so that you know that the Bible really does teach these things. For your convenience, here is a link to a free service that offers the Bible on-line in many different versions and languages. It is called BibleGateway.
